Purchasing Manager

 

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and delivery focused procurement professional to make their mark within a fast-growing company; based in Silverstone, Northamptonshire.

Your task will be to lead a newly formed supply chain team, responsible for buying, logistics, product conformity and purchasing systems. You will need the gravitas and experience to manage supplier relationships with our world-wide partners as well as to reduce the cost of purchasing and improve product quality. We would envisage that the successful candidate will have already proven themselves in formal buying role within an engineering or technical environment and is now looking for the next step up in level of responsibility.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director the duties will include:

  • Responsibility for margin enhancement through focused purchasing
  • Restructure the procurement department to meet the evolving demands of the UK’s changing trading relationships.
  • Develop and implement strategic supply chains and the necessary internal and external processes necessary to support them
  • To be accountable for leading supplier negotiations and setting up commercial contracts with existing and new suppliers
  • Lead the organisations Product Conformity strategy, driving implementation both within the company and with suppliers
  • Support the sales department in major customer contract negotiations
  • Rationalisation of existing supply base including selection and introduction of new suppliers to fill gaps

Key attributes and skills necessary are:

  • Astute commercial acumen and strong negotiating skills
  • Have experience in a similar purchasing role, ideally within an engineering/manufacturing environment
  • Ability to understand and apply contract terms
  • Good communication skills with the ability to influence others internally and externally
  • Happy to work within a team and alongside other experienced professionals

You will need a flexible approach to workload, confident in understanding technical specifications and drawings and ability to communicate complex requirements to/from supply chain, the ability to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business and a good understanding of international trade principles and practices.
